Super Typhoon Haiyan drew a path of destruction across the Central Philippines
that left millions of Filipinos homeless, injured, and without a viable
livelihood. Typically, MFIs reduce lending post-disaster. Following Typhoon
Haiyan, VisionFund and its Philippine MFI, Community Economic Ventures, Inc. (CEVI),
chose instead to deploy a “recovery lending” approach that increased lending,
allowing clients to access fresh loan capital to jump start their livelihood.
