About Us

VisionFund Lanka is a leading microfinance institution established as a subsidiary of VisionFund International, a global microfinance institution operating in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East/Eastern Europe. VisionFund International is a wholly owned subsidiary of World Vision International, a Christian relief development and advocacy organization. Working together, we provide the foundations for local economies to flourish in healthy and safe communities.

We provide financial services to people who would otherwise have little or no access to credit. The well-being of children, families and communities in Sri Lanka is our main focus. We serve the country’s poorest people by helping them start or grow their own businesses through loans of just a few hundred dollars.

VisionFund Lanka began operations in Sri Lanka in 2004, during a time of great need as the Asian Tsunami swept away homes and livelihoods. The organisation has grown over the decade, from two branches in Thanamalwila and Batticaloa, to 26 branches and 6 sub-branches, around the island today.

Working in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka is home to over 21 million people. Although it is an island abundant with natural resources, the country still bears the scars left by nearly 30 years of civil war and the Asian tsunami in 2004. Both of these historic events have left devastating effects on millions of lives.

Signs of development can be seen in the urban areas of the country. But in the far rural regions, examples of poverty remain a poignant reminder that there is still a lot of work to be done to ensure children live healthy and fulfilled lives.

In less developed areas, many families struggle to send their children to school. Small loans provided by our work play a significant role in helping families and their children improve their lives.
