About Us

VisionFund Mexico is a leading microfinance institution established as a subsidiary of VisionFund International, a global microfinance institution operating in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East/Eastern Europe. VisionFund International is a wholly owned subsidiary of World Vision International, a Christian relief development and advocacy organization. Working together, we provide the foundations for local economies to flourish in healthy and safe communities.

We provide financial services to people who would otherwise have little or no access to credit. The well-being of children, families and communities in Mexico is our main focus. We serve the country’s poorest people by helping them start or grow their own businesses through loans of just a few hundred dollars.

VisionFund Mexico has been supporting clients 15 years. Since then, we have grown to serve 23,700 active borrowers and impact 64,700 children and 36,300 jobs.

World Vision originally began its microfinance and savings programme in 1993, but quickly realised the global need for microfinance and the immense role it played in reducing poverty. VisionFund International was then founded in 2003 to manage its network of affiliated microfinance organisations (MFIs).

Since then, VisionFund International has been lending money to people in need of financial services, helping them to start or grow sustainable businesses. Our clients use the income earned to build a better future for their children, for example, through having clean water, nutritious food, education and healthcare.

Working in Mexico

There are still many families in Mexico that survive on very little and lack the finances needed for medical care, education or nutritious food.

Women in Mexico are usually the ones responsible for supporting their families. However, many poor women have little or no education and do not have land or productive assets. This leaves them particularly vulnerable in economic downturns or family emergencies.

We work in areas where poverty and the rate of illiteracy are much higher than the national average. Our products and services have been created to help poor people in Mexico escape their economic problems so they can adequately provide for the families.

Toby Greene joined our VisionFund Mexico in 2013 as CEO. Toby has over 20 years of banking and consumer finance experience, working for companies such as AIG, Wells Fargo and Provident in the USA, Mexico and throughout Latin America. Toby has a Masters degree in marketing and a Bachelors degree in economic history. Our MFI is led by a senior leadership team and is governed by a board of directors
